Govt mulls mandatory insurance for dog owners
The proposal to require dog owners to have minimum liability insurance will be referred to state governments for consideration, says Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
He said the idea, suggested by Mohd Hasnizan Harun (PN–Hulu Selangor), promotes social responsibility among pet owners and could help address problems involving stray and privately owned dogs.
Winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Oct 29), Nga noted that the Manjung Municipal Council has effectively curbed roaming livestock through strict enforcement, including seizure, detention and auctioning of neglected animals.
