Bondi hero Ahmed Al-Ahmed’s family ‘proud’ of his bravery
Bondi hero Ahmed Al-Ahmed’s family in Syria have praised his bravery for disarming one of the alleged shooters during the Bondi Beach terror attack on Sunday.
Al-Ahmed sustained injuries after he managed to wrestle a rifle away from a man who was allegedly attacking people attending a Jewish holiday event at the beach. Fifteen people were killed in the attack and a dozen others were injured.
The 43-year-old father left his hometown in Syria’s north-west province of Idlib nearly 20 years ago to seek work in Australia.
Al-Ahmed’s uncle, Mohammed Al-Ahmed, recognised him from the footage circulating online.
“We learned through social media. I called his father and he told me that it was Ahmed. Ahmed is a hero, we’re proud of him. Syria in general is proud of him,” he told Reuters.
