Xi Jinping greets WWII veterans with Putin and Kim

Chinese President Xi Jinping, flanked by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, greeted war veterans at the Victory Day parade in Beijing on September 3, 2025. The delegation included a representative from the Kuomintang (KMT), the main opposition political party in Taiwan. Beijing has criticised authorities from Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party for blocking KMT veterans and other Taiwanese from attending the event. The huge military parade in the Chinese capital was held to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
