Russian President Vladimir Putin told Kyiv on September 3, 2025, there was a chance to end the war in Ukraine through negotiations “if common sense prevails”. But he warned he was ready to end it “by force of arms” if that was the only way. His comments indicated Putin’s unwillingness to soften his long-standing demands, including that Kyiv abandon any idea of joining Nato. He said he was ready to hold talks with Volodymyr Zelensky if the Ukrainian president came to Moscow, a condition Kyiv has rejected as “unacceptable”.
