Donald Trump announces posthumous award for Charlie Kirk
US President Donald Trump has announced he will posthumously award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed at a Utah college event on Thursday AEST.
“Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people,” Trump said during a 9/11 memorial ceremony at the Pentagon.
Investigators say they have found a bolt-action rifle they believe was used to kill Kirk and have released images of a “person of interest” as they search for the shooter, described as “college age”.
