Johannesburg Water has warned residents against circulating fake messages claiming that the city’s water supply is contaminated and unsafe to drink.

While the utility says there is no confirmed citywide contamination incident – concerns about water quality and the spread of misinformation raise important questions about public trust, transparency and accountability.

So how safe is Johannesburg’s water and what should residents do when they have concerns?
