Alaska’s Peltola asks judge to toss DOJ’s Senate election lawsuit
Votebeat’s Dion Nissenbaum joins LiveNOW’s J Russell to break down some of the latest midterm-related legal challenges surrounding the Trump administration, specifically in Alaska, California and Washington.
Mary Peltola, the Democratic candidate in the competitive Alaska Senate race, has asked a federal judge to dismiss the Trump administration’s lawsuit seeking to block the state from certifying results if Dan Sullivan, the Republican incumbent, loses narrowly.
Meantime, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the Trump administration’s emergency appeal to set aside 20,000 California mail-in ballots. In the Trump administration’s appeal, it claimed the 20,000 vote-by-mail ballots may have “likely” come from alleged noncitizens.
