Rescue teams are continuing an urgent search for survivors after a 12-18-storey building under construction collapsed in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area. Emergency workers are using excavators, sniffer dogs and thermal sensors to search through the rubble as families wait for news of missing loved ones.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said rescue crews have adopted a new strategy to reach the basement, where survivors may still be trapped. County authorities, the National Youth Service and the Kenya Defence Forces are all involved in the operation. The Kenya Red Cross said 31 missing-person cases had been reported, though officials are still verifying the number.
The collapse has drawn major attention across Kenya as rescue efforts continue and anxious relatives gather at the disaster site in Eastleigh.
