A high-stakes legal feud has erupted in Melbourne after popular TikTok food reviewer Julzyy admitted using an artificial intelligence editing tool that accidentally generated an extra fly into footage of a family-run bakery. The controversy began when the creator posted a review of Kings Fresh Burek in St Albans to his 18,000 followers, claiming to spot three dead flies in the food display warmers. While the video amassed over 200,000 views, eagle-eyed viewers spotted TikTok’s automated AI disclosure label, prompting the owners’ son, Rob, to push back and clarify that the marks were likely burnt pastry crumbs. Despite the reviewer confessing that an AI prompt meant to enhance image clarity had “hallucinated” an insect, and health inspectors giving the 25-year-old business a clean bill of health, the creator has refused to issue a formal retraction. Now facing a formal legal concerns notice, this dispute highlights the extreme vulnerability of local small businesses in an era of unchecked generative AI content.
