Sebastian, who requested that the Globe use his middle name, is undocumented. He has been trying to find legal help to adjust his immigration status after crossing the border illegally three years ago. His two youngest children were born in the US and are US citizens.

The Trump administration has said it is targeting people with criminal records. The Globe found no criminal record for Sebastian in Rhode Island.
