Polish #city completes demolition of its #iconic chimneys
The chimneys of the former EC-2 combined heat and power plant in Łódź, central Poland, have been demolished, marking the end of a long-standing feature of the city’s skyline.
For safety reasons, residents of nearby buildings were ordered to evacuate during the operation.
Construction of EC-2 began in 1954, and the plant was completed in 1961. For decades, it played an important role in Łódź’s energy infrastructure.
The former industrial site is planned for redevelopment, with earlier proposals including housing, commercial services and recreational facilities.
