The 43-year-old man accused of mowing down independent federal MP Helen Haines in a horrific attack outside her Wangaratta electorate office in regional Victoria has been named as Brendan Nugent.
Mr Nugent, from Tarrawingee, a town of about 400 people 15 minutes east of Wangaratta, was known to police.
The Australian was first to report Mr Nugent’s name, which had been circulated on social media.
