‘Very naive’: Nationals’ university debt plan slammed as defence recruitment crisis deepens

Former NSW police minister David Elliot attacks the Nationals’ proposal to wipe university debt for Australians who serve in the Defence Force.

“It’s very naïve, and it has set aside some existing programs. I don’t think they’re considering the existing programs that are there,” Mr Elliot told News24 host Jaimee Rogers.

“People aren’t joining the defence force because every professional vocation in the country now has a shortage.

“I think the Nats have actually misunderstood exactly what opportunities there are.”
