FULL: Trump says he will declare Strait of Hormuz a US territory
President Donald Trump spoke at the Nassau County Police Academy in Garden City, NY on Friday.
Trump was on Long Island to throw his support behind NY GOP governor candidate Bruce Blakeman, who is running against Kathy Hochul.
The president’s event with Blakeman is being described as a forum on public safety.
The White House said the president will highlight his record on crime and safety, and release new FBI crime statistics showing a decrease in violent crime in 2025.
Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel will also be attending.
During his remarks, Trump spoke about the 2026 midterms, the Democratic party, the war in Iran, and other topics.
“Pretty soon I’ll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States,” Trump told the crowd while discussing Iran.
