Russia has accused the United States and Israel of fuelling escalating violence in Yemen, while demanding the complete lifting of the country’s maritime and land blockade. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Russian representative Yulia Zhdanova said the prolonged deadlock in Yemen’s peace process had pushed the Houthis into a wider regional confrontation. She called for an immediate return to negotiations and urged a political settlement involving all major Yemeni forces, including the Houthis. Her remarks come as the United Nations warns that Yemen faces a serious risk of returning to large-scale conflict amid renewed fighting between Saudi-backed government forces and Iran-aligned Houthi rebels.
