Immigration courts are increasingly scheduling mass hearings with 100 or more cases at a time as federal officials work to reduce a nationwide backlog.
Advocates say the accelerated pace can leave immigrants with less time to prepare or find legal representation and has raised due process concerns.
On Long Island, cases ending in removal increased from 305 in December to 768 in June, with more than half issued after immigrants missed their hearings.
