‘Highly likely’ US will have to give up its ‘greatest leverage’ to secure Hormuz opening
FDD Iran Program Senior Director Benham Taleblu says a deal over the Strait of Hormuz is “certainly possible” but at the cost of some of the US’s “greatest leverage”.
“It’s highly likely that America is going to have to trade away some of its greatest leverage, for example the blockade,” Mr Taleblu told News24.
“That is a subject that is up for debate, and after such a deal is in effect, can they get what the Trump administration has been talking about in the background, which is that bigger, broader, better deal over the nuclear issue, and how does the new status over the Strait of Hormuz impact the administration’s Iran strategy?”
