Indigenous warriors helped fight the Japanese in WWII | ABC NEWS
In World War II, the Australian army worked with the Yolŋu people of East Arnhem Land worked to set up surveillance operations along the northern coastline to defend against the Japanese.
Back then, it was called the Northern Territory Special Reconnaissance Unit, but their descendants still serve in the region today, in the reserve unit NORFORCE (North West Mobile Force).
At Garma festival in Arnhem Land, some of their descendants speak about their ancestors and legacy they left behind.
