On August 1, 1944, thousands of Home Army soldiers launched the Warsaw Uprising in a bid to free the capital from Nazi occupation.
After 63 days of fierce fighting, the city lay devastated and tens of thousands had lost their lives.
The Uprising remains one of the Second World War’s most powerful symbols of courage, sacrifice and resilience.
