Russian missile in Poland: Accident or provocation, the threat was real | News In Depth

A Russian Kh-101 cruise missile carrying a significant explosive payload crashed inside Polish territory during Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine. “Whether it was an accident or a provocation, the threat was serious,” said Michał Broniatowski, Editor-in-Chief at TVP World, on News in Depth. He stressed that the missile was armed and “could have landed not in an open field, but in the middle of a city.” Broniatowski added that it would be extremely dangerous if the incident was a deliberate Russian provocation, as that could signal further escalation seeking by the Kremlin.

Incidents in which the war spills beyond the borders of Russia and Ukraine are becoming increasingly common. The question is whether NATO should do more to strengthen its eastern flank. “NATO is already doing a lot,” Broniatowski argued, pointing to existing missile defense infrastructure, Patriot systems, radar networks, and ongoing efforts to improve coordination and information sharing.
