Illegal mining disrupts water supply in Barberton
Illegal mining has once again disrupted water supply in Barberton, Mpumalanga.
The Mbombela Municipality has shut down the Rimers Creek Water Treatment Plant after mining activities threatened the safety of raw water abstraction, posing a risk the quality of drinking water.
This has left several areas, including the CBD, with dry taps.
The plant will reopen once the area is declared safe.
