A sanitation worker in Milwaukee was seriously injured on Wednesday, July 15, when an oxygen tank exploded inside a garbage truck after being improperly disposed of.
Security camera footage from the city’s Department of Public Works shows the moment the sanitation worker was thrown onto the ground from the force of the blast.
According to the department, oxygen tanks were not disposed of correctly and the explosion occurred as contents from a garbage cart was being emptied and compacted into the truck.
The worker suffered a concussion and had shrapnel removed from their eye, according to local reporting.
