During a heated congressional hearing, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent repeatedly asked Rep. Judy Chu, “Who was the president during World War I?” after she pressed him on comments related to Americans’ financial concerns. Chu declined to answer the history question, saying she did not know and accusing Bessent of avoiding her original question. The exchange drew laughter from some people in the hearing room as Bessent continued to repeat the question.
