Heavy rains threaten E Cape citrus farmers’ production recovery

Citrus farmers in the Gamtoos River Valley in the Eastern Cape are on high alert with expected heavy rainfall this week raising concerns over production risks and possible financial losses.

The South African Weather Service has issued a level-five warning for destructive rain between Wednesday and Friday in areas including Kouga, Koukamma Municipality, and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

SABC News Lubabalo Dada reports that farmers are still recovering from last month’s devastating floods, which severely damaged the region’s citrus sector.
