Cambodia’s acting head of state Hun Sen pardoned political opponent Kem Sokha on May 25, 2026. Sokha, co-founder of the now defunct Cambodia National Rescue Party, was serving a 27-year sentence for treason. The former prime minister announced the decision on social media, sharing an official royal decree he signed to absolve the opposition leader of charges related to trying to overthrow the regime.
