UPDATE: Officials warn CA chemical tank leak ‘not over yet’ as evacuation zone reduced
We are now getting an update this Monday as emergency crews continue to work to prevent a chemical plant in California from leaking or exploding. Officials say that an estimated 50,000 Orange County residents have been given evacuation orders in the past few days. Residents in Garden Grove are marking Day 5 of crews responding to GKN Aerospace after one of its chemical tanks overheated to dangerous levels. During Monday’s press conference, we learned that officials lifted an evacuation order for some of the people who live near the hazardous chemical tank. United States Senator Adam Schiff of California spoke alongside officials during the update.
California Governor Gavin Newsom previously announced that President Donald Trump approved the state’s request for a Presidential Emergency Declaration to support emergency efforts. “California didn’t wait for this situation to escalate — we moved early, aggressively, and in close partnership with local responders to protect lives and support impacted communities. We are grateful for the federal government approving our request and helping strengthen the resources already on the ground to help this community recover safely,” Gov. Newsom said in a statement.
