Montargis may look like an average rural French town, but it played an important role in the historic development of China’s communist party and in turn, the modern Chinese nation. Among the hundreds of Chinese students who travelled to Montargis in the early 20th century for work and study were some of China’s most important political figures, including the late Chinese paramount leader Deng Xiaoping.
