New blow for Dems as SCOTUS rejects Virginia redistricting map
We are learning more after the Supreme Court on Friday rejected Virginia’s bid to restore a congressional map that would have favored Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections. This comes as the justices have also sided with Republicans in Alabama and Louisiana who have hoped to redo their congressional maps to produce more GOP-leaning seats following the court’s voting rights decision. LiveNOW’s Anna Marsick is speaking with Sabrina Moreno from Axios as reports indicate that the new map would have given Democrats four more seats.
According to our partners at Fox 5 Washington DC, the Virginia situation is different than other states, having stemmed from a 4-3 ruling by the Virginia Supreme Court that struck down a constitutional amendment that voters narrowly passed just last month.
