Passengers evacuated from hantavirus-hit ship begin flying home
Passengers evacuated from the MV Hondius, the luxury cruise ship at the centre of a deadly hantavirus outbreak, have begun flying home.
Government and military planes have begun arriving in Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands to return nearly 130 people to 23 countries.
Some crew members and the body of a passenger who died on board will remain on the ship, which will sail to the Netherlands to be disinfected.
Four Australians, one permanent resident and a New Zealand national will be among the last to leave, as they wait for a government-supported charter flight to arrive.
