Trump, China’s Xi to discuss global trade and war during high-stakes visit
President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet in Beijing this week. According to White House spokesperson Anna Kelly, Trump will attend a state banquet on Thursday evening and then have a tea and working lunch with Xi on Friday before leaving. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with Chris McGuire from the Council on Foreign Relations as Trump and Xi are expected to speak about a number of topics, including ongoing conflict in the Middle East, trade, and recent updates from Taiwan as the two-day summit begins Thursday.
Their last meeting took place in October in South Korea, where they agreed to pause an ongoing trade war that had seen the United States impose tariffs on Chinese products and Beijing threaten to restrict the global supply of rare earths.
