Economics news update with Katlego Legodi
We now focus on developments that could have an impact on the economy.
The South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (SACCAWU) has rejected Pick n Pay’s proposed overhaul of its store labour model, warning that the retailer’s Section 189A process could push workers out despite assurances that no jobs will be cut.
The union is expected to brief the media later this week.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) will publish first-quarter unemployment data with the release of the Quarterly Labour Force Survey.
Mobile network operator Vodacom will also release its annual results for the financial year ended 31 March 2025.
And lastly, we continue to closely monitor the potential impact of the Hantavirus on the economy.
To give us more insight into what to expect this week from the economics desk, we welcome SABC News Reporter Katlego Legodi.
