Labor moves to reserve 20 per cent of gas exports for domestic use under new plan

Energy Minister Chris Bowen announces new gas reservation policy details which require gas producers to sell 20 per cent to Australian users.

“Today we can announce that we have settled on a model which we will seek to legislate through the parliament,” Mr Bowen said.

“That model will involve 20 per cent of Australian gas exports being reserved for Australian use first.

“There will be a requirement on gas producers to sell that 20 per cent to Australian users.”
