Bali is drowning in its own trash

Bali’s largest landfill stopped accepting organic waste in April 2026, as the government finally enforced a ban on open dumping. But the move has resulted in rubbish stacking up on streets and beaches, leaving locals on the Indonesian resort island frustrated. Jakarta has announced plans to implement several waste-to-energy projects in June, but it reportedly could take years before the plants become operational.
