The hunt for journalists: Press freedom at record low | Press Talks
In anticipation of World Press Freedom Day 2026, the new episode of Press Talks features Szabolcs Panyi, Pavol Szalai, and Waiel Awwad, who examine the alarming decline of media freedom worldwide.
From Hungary’s shifting media environment and the espionage case against investigative journalist Szabolcs Panyi, to the release of Polish journalist Andrzej Poczobut from Alexander Lukashenko’s prison, the episode explores how governments are increasingly using legal systems to target media workers. Particular attention is given to the growing normalization of attacks on journalists and the failure of international institutions, including EU ones, to provide effective legal protection of press freedom.
The program is hosted by Jarosław Włodarczyk, President of Press Club Poland, who brings together a distinguished panel of international reporters to examine how global events are perceived far beyond Europe’s borders.
