Kremlin seeks “Victory Day” ceasefire as Kyiv strikes deep | Ukraine Brief

Ukraine has requested further details from the United States today after Vladimir Putin floated the idea of a ceasefire on May 9, coinciding with the Russian Victory Day celebrations, in a Wednesday phone call with President Donald Trump. Kyiv maintains that it wants a long-term ceasefire with Russia.

Ukrainian drones have once again struck Russian energy infrastructure, this time attacking an oil refinery in Russia’s Perm. Social media footage shows massive flames and black smoke clouds rising from the facility, located over 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine.

Following a diplomatic spat between Israel and Ukraine’s respective foreign ministries, a ship suspected of carrying grain from Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine and attempting to dock at Israel’s Haifa port is departing Israeli territorial waters.

In other news, at least five people have been killed in Russian strikes against Ukraine over the last day.
