King Charles says US and UK ‘stand united’ despite disagreements
British monarch King Charles told US Congress that the United Kingdom and the United States were “united” in their “commitment to uphold democracy” despite “differences” and “disagreements”.
He noted that his visit to the US came at a time of “great uncertainty”, saying that conflicts in Europe and the Middle East posed “immense challenges” to the international community, and “whose impact” was “felt in communities, the length and breadth” of the UK and the US.
He also acknowledged the apparent assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump over the weekend, saying: “Such acts of violence will never succeed.”
The king also called for the support of Ukraine.
“In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, when NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time and the United Nations Security Council was united in the face of terror, we answered the call together as our people have done so for more than a century,” he said.
“Today, Mr Speaker, that same unyielding resolve is needed for the defence of Ukraine and her most courageous people.”
