Substation blaze triggers Joburg blackout
City Power has confirmed that several parts of Johannesburg’s inner city and surrounding areas are affected by power outages following a fire at a central substation early this morning. The affected substation has impacted the inner city, including the CBD, Marshalltown, Braamfontein, Newtown, Jeppestown, Doornfontein, and surrounding areas. City Power general manager Isaac Mangena confirmed that emergency management services and other responding departments are on site to manage the incident, gain access to the site, and conduct proper assessments.
