DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro Announces Arrests in Massive $700M Chinese Crypto Fraud Scheme
DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced charges Thursday against two Chinese nationals who ran a “scam compound in Burma” that bilked Americans out of their life savings. The “Chinese bosses” posed as US banks, the NYPD and other entities to steal from Americans as part of a “coordinated” cybercrime and cryptocurrency fraud campaign, Pirro said. The Shanda Compound they two ran in Burma trafficked, enslaved, tortured and beat thousands who had expected to receive jobs there, in perpetuation of the fraud involving crypto, which is sometimes known as “pig butchering.” The DC US attorney noted that at least $700 million has been “restrained” and more than 500 fake websites perpetuating the scheme have been taken down, as part of the investigation that resulted in the indictments against Huang Xingshan and Jiang Wen Jie.
