Russian President Vladimir Putin and China’s President Xi Jinping were overheard at Beijing’s massive Victory Day military parade making some very strange small talk.
Mr Putin pondered immortality while Xi suggested “150 years” was more achievable.
The wild conversation between the autocrats was caught on a hot mic, reports the New York Post.
It came as Putin and Xi walked alongside North Korea’s Kim Jong-un during the event marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
“Biotechnology is continuously developing,” Putin’s translator could be heard saying on a livestream broadcast on Chinese state media.
“Human organs can be continuously transplanted. The longer you live, the younger you become, and [you can] even achieve immortality.”
“Some predict that in this century humans may live to 150 years old,” Xi’s translator responded. He then added another point: “Earlier, people rarely lived to 70, but these days at 70 years you are still a child”.
Both Putin and Xi are 72.
The North Korean dictator, meanwhile, could be seen smiling and looking in the direction of Putin and Xi as the disarming conversation unfolded.
It wasn’t clear if the conversation was being translated for him.
Audio of the exchange among the three strongmen lasted less than a minute and repeatedly dropped out.
The chat unfolded just moments before Xi told a crowd of more than 50,000 spectators the world faced a choice of “peace or war” as he inspected troops and cutting-edge military equipment — including hypersonic missiles and naval drones.
